Force India allowed to race in Belgium

Force India has been allowed to continue racing in 2018 after setting up a new team entry.

It was feared that due to legal issues with Lawrence Stroll’s takeover of the team that it would be blocked from racing until the situation was resolved.

But the issue has now been resolved as they will now race under the new title “Racing Point Force India”. This, however, means that their points will be reset to 0 as they are now classed as a new team, although Perez and Ocon will keep their championship points.

As part of the move, former Force India COO Otmar Szafnauer will become team principal.

“The new Racing Point Force India Team is delighted to be able to race when the championship resumes in Belgium this weekend,” he said.

“This heralds a new and exciting chapter for us. Just a few weeks ago, an uncertain future lay ahead, with more than 400 jobs at risk; now the new team has the backing of a consortium of investors, led by Lawrence Stroll, who believe in us as a team, in our expertise and in our potential to achieve success on the track.”

The loss of championship points will now move Mclaren, Toro Rosso, Sauber and Williams up to 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th respectivly.
