The Sauber F1 team has confirmed that it will retain Marcus Ericsson and take on Ferrari junior Charles LeClerc for the 2018 season dropping Mercedes junior Pascal Wehrlein.
After announcing on Wednesday that Alfa Romeo would partner Sauber next year as part of a tie-up with Ferrari, it was expected that Sauber would take on F2 champion LeClerc.
Ericsson meanwhile is believed to backers connected to Sauber who have kept him in the car.
LeClerc Impressed massively on his F1 debut this year, winning the title 3 races before the finale and taking a record 8 pole positions.
It is unknown however what will happen to Mercedes junior Wehrlein and Ferrari’s other junior Antonio Giovinazzi (currently the Scuderia’s third driver). The for though could return to DTM or switch to Formula With Mercedes.
Sauber also launched a concept livery with a white and red design that incorporates the Alfa Romeo logo.
This now leves Williams as the only team to confirm who will partner Stroll, with Robert Kubica being the front runner, and complete the 2018 grid.
