F1 is set to introduce the Halo design for 2018 after an FIA meeting in Geneva.
The Halo was the first concept of head protection proposed and has been tested by all teams at least once.
However, despite it being panned by 9/10 teams, most drivers and nearly all fans, the FIA has pushed the concept through on safety grounds.
The other option is a safety shield piloted by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in FP1 for the British GP. But Vettel ended his test after one lap due to feeling dizzy.
As such it will be held back for further development.
The Halo introduction though still has to go through the World Motorsport Council before being made official.
Only 6 of the current teams are part of the FIA meetings group however it is believed that other teams were allowed to come and observe. And were asked their opinions on certain matters.
