Fernando Alonso will revert back to the new ‘Spec 3’ engine for this weekend’s race but will still incur penalties.
The Spaniard was supposed to use the new engine in Austria but problems were detected on the Friday night and so he was put back to the ‘Spec 2’ from there on.
He will now use the new engine but with the old MGU-H as this was the part that originally failed.
Given Austria and Britain are back to back Honda hasn’t been able to fix the problem yet.
He will also use a new power store taking him up to 5 and thus will be served a 5 place grid penalty.
However, Honda may decide to make further changes which will mean more penalties.
It is believed that they will take as many penalties as they can at Silverstone, where they are expected to struggle, instead of the next race in Hungary which should be much stronger for them.
