Both Stoffel Vandoorne and Fernando Alonso are set to take on grid penalties at this weekends Azerbaijan grand prix.
The two drivers will both run new MGU-H components after Vandoorne’s failure in Canada practice.
Despite having a countermeasure part, Honda chose to leave it until Baku where they are expected to struggle instead of taking the penalty in Canada.
Both drivers will also run new turbochargers, the sixth such component for both. As such they will both be handed 15 place grid penalties.
“We have some penalties already to start the weekend, which is not ideal, but this is the situation we are in,” Said Vandoorne.
“We will try to do our best, focus maybe a bit more on race runs and hopefully we can play a bit during the race.
“We are probably competing to start from the back of the grid.”
Additionally Alonso will use his fourth and final internal combustion engine after a failure in Canada cost Mclaren their first points with 2 laps to go.
