Haas have signed GP3 driver Arjun Maini as development driver alongside current dev driver Santino Ferrucci.
The 19 year old first came to fruition back in 2014 by finishing runner up in the British BRDC F4 championship, just behind Mercedes junior driver George Russell. He then went to European F3. After a poor start to the 2016 campaign however switched to GP3 where he scored podium at the Hungaroring and finished tenth even though he missed the first two races.
Maini said: “It’s an honour to be a part of Haas F1 Team’s driver development program.
“All of my racing to date has been with the focus of becoming a Formula 1 driver, and this opportunity puts me one step closer to my goal.
“I am eager to learn, understand and experience how a Formula 1 team operates. Everything I learn can be used immediately in GP3 while preparing for my ultimate goal of Formula 1.”
He will continue to race in this year’s GP3 series, racing for Jenzer Motorsport.
Team boss Gunther Steiner said: “As Haas continues to mature, we must look toward our future and develop potential talent.
“Arjun was successful in karting and has transitioned well to various series and now GP3. We’ll keep a keen eye on his progress this year.”
