Pascal Wehrlein has decided to withdraw from this year’s season opening Australian grand Prix amid new concerns over his back injury sustained at Race of champions.
“My fitness level is not as it should be for a full race distance because of my training deficit. I explained the situation to the team yesterday evening”. Said the German. “Therefore, the Sauber F1 Team has decided not to take any risks. It is a pity, but the best decision for the team.”
Pascal missed the first of this year’s pre season tests at Barcelona for the same reason. And although he was able to compete in the second test and Friday practice he will not take any further part this weekend.
This means that Ferrari third driver Antonio Giovinazzi will once again take over proceedings from Wehrlein.
